Kos Marina

 6 April 14.30

‘It has stopped raining and we have blue skies and sunshine all cant be bad with the world.’

Our journey to Rhodes was uneventful the bad weather held off and we were soon tied up on the quay next to the castle.

The harbour for a pleasant change was not busy but of course the charter boats are not yet in commission.
The charter places are usually jealously guarded I am still not sure of the legality of that, it seams very unfair that they can reserve berths in a port when it clearly states shelter and mooring should be offered to visiting yachts.

I remember clearly being waved away by a chartered, saying this place is reserved for my friends, my answer was to drop my trousers which received much applause from other yachties.

The main reason for visiting Rhodes was to ‘shop till you drop’ in the local branch of Liddell we were not disappointed Chilean, French, Spanish and Italian wines were available at a fraction of the cost elsewhere.
They were also selling a Spey side Malt whiskey for just over 5 euros.

The weather for the following day didn’t look that inviting with the promise of rain and strong southerly we reckoned that we could just make Kos if the forecast was right, it was thank goodness the last 10 miles gave us somewhat brisk sailing and a little rain we got into the marina tied up and the heavens opened, it rained and blew till about midday we recorded 54knts across the decks at one point, ok if you’re tied to a pontoon.

Gwyn and Mandy who are our guests on board have taken the opportunity to have a look around the town I spent the last hour washing all the red sand off the e boat courtesy of Mr. Gaddafi.

It looks a lot more settled for the next three days with westerly at about 3 to 4 beau fort so we will leave in the morning bound North maybe Samos but more likely the small island of Giadharos some 10 miles south of Pythagorean.

We like Kos marina very much although a little on the expensive side 22e a night it is fully serviced and has excellent facilities with the best WI FI we have encountered up to now.
We spent the rainy morning SKYPE ing people and catching up with e mails as well as downloading the latest episodes of our favourite soaps.
